CS134a Course OverviewThis first term course is an introduction to operating systems. We will not focus on any particular operating system, but we will be using examples from a number of operating systems like UNIX, Linux, and the various MS operating systems. The purpose of the course is to describe the concepts that underlie all of these operating systems--concepts like processes, virtual memory, I/O, communication, filesystems, scheduling, and security. The links at the left allow you to navigate the site. For current homework and laboratory assignments, visit the Assignments page. During the term, we'll be posting examples of excellent student work on the Pearls page. If you have a question, you should first look at the FAQ; if your question is not answered there, you can ask the instructor or one of the TAs listed on the People page. You should also check the Mailing List frequently for course information and announcements. |
